Celtic music seemed to be all the rage a few years ago. Given my own Scottish and Irish roots, it's not surprising that I would become a big fan. I've since happily reviewed dozens of gorgeous Celtic titles. Looking back on the reviews I've published in this newsletter, however, I realized that only a handful of Celtic titles have come my way since 1996. I'm especially delighted, then, to tell you about The Celtic Lounge III, the superb new compilation from David and Steve Gordon at Sequoia Records.

David and Steve Gordon have done it again, brilliantly organizing a wide range of instrumental as well as vocal tracks, giving the listener an exquisite aural adventure through the "Emerald Isle." The Celtic Lounge III softly evokes the rolling, iridescent green moors of ancient legend. Imagine fog and rain showers playing tag with wool-endowed sheep, a leprechaun's rainbow seemingly around every corner, rays of sun shining like diamonds on the mist-shrouded terrain. Suddenly your heart awakens, and you realize that your ancestors once called this place home.

The Celtic Lounge III features a grand host of artists, including Singh Kaur, Achillea, Gandalf, Gary Stadler, Everstar, Helene Horlyck, 7and5 featuring Stella 13, Stephannie and Eleven of Hearts, plus David & Steve Gordon. Nearly half of the 12 tracks were previously unreleased, making The Celtic Lounge III a home for fresh material as well as some old favorites. Check out "Fly Away," by Gary Stadler and Singh Kaur, from Fairy Nightsongs. No longer with us, Singh Kaur had one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard, and experiencing her voice again brought tears. A truly lovely compilation, filled with tender melodies and peaceful energy, The Celtic Lounge III is an exceptionally magical gift.

There's no doubting - ancient traditions aside - that this CD is a product of today. The Celts of old would certainly encounter some elements they wouldn't recognize. Of course, they'd also hear the heart of their music at work here too. In other words, "The Celtic Lounge III" is another addition to the swelling canon of tradition remorphed via electronica vision. Though this isn't computer generated sounds. No, traditional instrumentation factors in here, as well. World music and now's sound have made a pretty happy marriage. The Gordon Brothers have mixed together an eclectic but not disjointed collection of tracks that pay tribute to "the Emerald Isle" and its rich past while forging ahead. This is one to hook you in from beginning to end.

...a dreamy, faintly emerald-tinted ambience that... evokes Celtic tradition... the third installment in the Sequoia label's Celtic Lounge series will fit the bill nicely ...when producers David Gordon and Steve Gordon cross to the other side of the studio glass and play compositions of their own, the results are invariably quite lovely, and Gary Stadler's "Spinnee" and 7and5's "Whispering in the Trees" are both exceptionally so.

MagazineThe Sequoia label can be trusted to select solid music for its compilation recordings, and The Celtic Lounge III is no exception. Featuring familiar names such as Gary Stadler, Steve Gordon, David Gordon, and Gandalf and some perhaps less well-known (Helene Horlyck, Achillea, and EverStar), the album offers an assortment of musical styles and tempos, something for almost everyone. Opening with the mystical fantasy-tinted "Fairy Nightsongs," The Celtic Lounge III flows along nicely, from the cheery "The Magic of Spring," through the marriage of chill-out beats and fluid melodies on "Whispering in the Trees," to unadorned acoustic guitar and piano on the pastoral "Where the Soft Breezes Blow." With Gary Stadler (known for his fairy-themed CDs), featured on three tracks, your fairy and fantasy lovers should resonate with this release, as well as fans of Celtic-influenced music with a New Age twist.

Completely awesome. This is the perfect CD to wind down to at the end of a long day. Soak in the hot tub. Curl up by the campfire. Meditate your troubles away &mdash at least for a while.

Many of these songs can be used with ritual or spell work, yoga, pilates or a variety of other practices. The perfect CD for a late summer night sitting on the deck staring at the stars.

The ever talented Gordon brothers pull together one of their greatest collections on this CD. This one has definitely moved to the top of my "gotta have it" list.
