It's a calm summer night - let the Music Take You Away. When you need to unwind, escape into the Lotus Room, where lazy afternoons watching the sunset melt into late night rendezvous. David Gordon, co-producer of the Buddha Lounge series, has put a fresh and original spin on chill out lounge music with this set of smooth downtempo excursions. This is jazz-tinged electronica for elegant parties, reading, lounging around or even urban yoga, that will always put a smile on your face and make you feel good every time. Hypnotic beats and electronic grooves, evolved from ambient music and trip hop, bring en-trancing sensations. From an earlier time, smooth retro-esque "exotica" evoke moods of romance and easy living. A blending of two in one; it's about sharing moments with friends, about pleasure, and awareness. Make yourself comfortable, surrender to the sensuous rhythms and immerse yourself in the warm vibes.

While David (and brother) Steve Gordon has forayed into the
global electronica genre before on previous Sequoia Records' releases, I
was still unprepared for the full-on chill assault and late-night
martini-lounge vibe of The Lotus Room. From the album's way cool artwork
(a break from normal Sequoia style) to the sexy beats and sassy yet
sensual melodies (with an abundance of vibes, which I LOVE), this album
is the album to grab when you need to get yer mojo workin'!
New Age Retailer
The Lotus Room may be the best electronica album released by Sequoia Records, and that's saying something! David Gordon composed and recorded these 11 tracks over several years. As enjoyable a retro-lounge/jazz-tronica recording as I've heard in quite a while, The Lotus Room compares quite favorably to Richard Bone's classic "hip" trilogy (Electropica, Coxa, and Ascensionism), but Gordon's sound is fuller, more fleshed out with more musical elements. With its catchy melodies, infectious beats, and hip touches (e.g., sweet organ riffs and ultra-cool vibraphone tones), this album is sure to be an instant crowd-pleaser!

Sequoia Records never disappoints. Truly this is the best company I have found for versatile albums and their catalog is simply loaded with great music.
This album from David Gordon is a collection of songs to relax and unwind the listener, yet these songs can be put to plenty of other uses as well. I have yet to find an album by either of the Gordons that isn't great for sitting and relaxing in the hot tub, yet of course this is so much more. Great ambiance background (or foreground!) music for a dinner party, night out on the deck or patio, or even yoga, it energizes while it relaxes replacing negative energy with clean, pure, positive energy. This album is revitalizing and recharging. Perfect for exercise or to help you rejuvenate after a long day on the job.
Sequoia Records is great at providing soundtracks for real life.

Music Design In Review
David Gordon, co-producer of the highly acclaimed Buddha Lounge series, shows listeners what "smooth" sounds like with his luxurious album THE LOTUS ROOM. One part urban sophistication and one part tropical getaway, THE LOTUS ROOM is an album that whisks you away to the perfect lounge, where the martinis flow freely, inviting couches entice you to kick back with friends and the DJ is perfectly in sync with your mood. The music has a jazzy flair, bundled up with shuffling downtempo rhythms and twinkly retro-flavored keyboards. Lush ambience swims through the backdrop, keeping the music chilled and tranquil - ideal for creating an atmosphere while entertaining. Whether you're in the mood for romance, a night on the town, doing yoga or curling up with a good book, THE LOTUS ROOM will allow you to do it with elegance.
Daily OM
Multi-instrumentalist and composer David Gordon is something of a New Age music mogul. He founded Sequoia Records with his brother Steve over two decades ago, which put them at the forefront of the then emerging genre of New Age music. Drawing on nature for inspiration, the brothers created albums that skillfully blended electronic beats with ancient sounds. The result was albums that excelled in the New Age genre, ranking high on the Billboard charts, and selling as well as albums from artists like Enya and Lorena McKennit.
These prolific brothers are also behind the Buddha Lounge series. This venture puts a smooth jazz spin on lounge-ish down-tempo music for the ultimate in chill. The Lotus Room allows you to turn any space into a lotus room, a tranquil place where you can relax and slow down your pace of life to enjoy the moment. The opening track, "Buddha Nova," sums up the ethos of the album, and sets you on a mental vacation with languid unhurried beats, the sounds of lapping waves, echoes of birds, and gilded strings. Relax, this is the new way to meditate.
"A Night in the Martinique" embraces exotic grooves to set the background for an easier way of life. Sounds of the Far East are brought directly to your home, car, or yoga practice space for a voyage into the easier side of life without ever having to take a step. Flutes, xylophone, and chimes lull you while sensual rhythms provide just the right amount of stimulation. "Bodhisattvas" takes you even further east, bringing you the tranquility of the Himalayas with tablas beating gentle rhythms. Combined with samples of sensual female vocals gently encouraging the presence of enlightened beings, this tune is a perfect accompaniment to urban yoga or the precursor to a heightened sensual experience.
Bio Magazine
This music, with it's sensuous rhythms, makes you feel happy and helps you to let go of the stress of everyday life. David Gordon, co-producer of the successful Lounge series Buddha Lounge, presents a fresh and original album of warm Chill Out music. His jazz-tinged electronica is wonderfully relaxing and will immerse you in fantasy worlds.
