Experience the perfect peace within and without. This exquisite music is soothing, uplifting and will illuminate your heart with joy. The final recording from legendary vocalist Singh Kaur (Fairy Nightsongs, The Crimson Series) -- This Universe is an enchanting message of love that radiates grace and serenity. The purity of Singh Kaur's ethereal voice shines through on the extended ancient chant "This Universe," a gorgeous and enchanting original version of "A Spark in the Night," and a breathtaking musical version of "The Lord's Prayer." The deeply touching beauty of Singh Kaur's voice is a rare gift and she recorded this extraordinary music as her final offering to her fans. Produced by Gary Stadler (Fairy of the Woods) and featuring artfully sensitive keyboard orchestrations by Raphael (Music to Disappear Into) and special guest Lisa Lynne on Celtic harp, "This Universe" will deepen and enhance your yoga, the healing arts or meditation.

One could say that Singh Kaur (born Laura Drew and also known as Lorellei) was destined for music. At the age of five, Kaur's opera-singing grandmother would serenade her with arias. At 14 Kaur bought her first guitar and has been composing music ever since. While Kaur comes from a musical background, it is yoga that truly inspires and drives her music, and made her one of those most prominent voices in the spiritual community, especially in the yoga realm. She was christened Singh Kaur (meaning Lion Princess) by Yogi Bhajan, a master of Kundalini yoga who confirmed that to sing was her destiny and that she would inspire others to love her through her music. As a Sikh, she spent 14 years in an ashram studying ancient spiritual teachings, and her lyrics draw on this experience to complement these sacred texts. The love and genuine spirit of her music proved successful both in the yoga community and in more mainstream culture; she recorded the Crimson series, and in 1988 she r! ecorded her first Billboard chart-topping album.

The Universe is Kaur's final offering of music, three previously unreleased songs that incorporate her ideology and healing practice that she had been working on prior to her sudden death in 1998 due to ovarian cancer. The album begins with "Spark in the Night," an unreleased version of a tune that appeared on Fairy Nightsongs, her last studio album. Touching on the idea of a spirit that lives on after someone has passed, the song is even more appropriate given the nature of the album. Like a guiding spirit, her voice wafts in harmonies above the acoustic guitar and twinkling bells.

The majority of the album consists of the song "This Universe," a substantial song clocking in at just over 43 minutes. With its melodically repetitive nature, "This Universe," is a perfect tune for meditation. It is full of light and airiness and Kaur's effortless vocals combined with the unhurried length create an expansive coolness to allow clear thought and meditation. The album concludes with "The Lord's Prayer," a yogic interpretation of this spiritual anthem. In embracing a more traditional song, Kaur opens up her music to a broader spiritual community, while the addition of harps by Lisa Lynne add awe-inspiring celestial notes, as does the addition of Gary Stadler's keys.

Music Design In Review
In 1998, spiritual songstress Singh Kaur teamed up with Gary Stadler to provide the vocals for his album FAIRY NIGHT SONGS. Sadly, she passed away just before the release of the album. Listeners who were enchanted by the combination of Kaur's pristine, fragile vocals with Stadler's whimsical compositions will treasure this release, which posthumously reunites the pair. THIS UNIVERSE, an album of previously unreleased material, features three haunting tracks: a 40+ minute rendition of the ancient chant "This Universe," Kaur's dreamy musical interpretation of "The Lord's Prayer", featuring Raphael and the original version of "Spark in the Night" from FAIRY NIGHT SONGS. The crystalline singing of Kaur continues to be a perfect marriage of grace and controlled emotion, while Stadler's mixture of Celtic instrumentation with fantasy themes provides a peaceful, relaxing backdrop. Includes harp playing from guest artist Lisa Lynne.

MusicTap
Vocalist and acoustic guitarist Singh Kaur carved out a niche for herself in the instrumental/New Age realm with several albums in the 1980s, including one that charted in the Billboard top 200. In 1998, Singh Kaur appeared on the Sequoia Records release, Fairy Nightsongs. However, this was Singh Kaurs final recording as she passed away from ovarian cancer shortly before it was released. This Universe is a compilation of some of her previously unreleased material. Spark in the Night is absolutely beautiful. This song almost made me cry and is certainly a beautiful musical tribute to a lost loved one. Likewise, I really enjoy the musical interpretation of The Lords Prayer. The title song was Singh Kaurs final written creation. Singh Kaur would be proud and honored that her friends deemed her special enough to see it completed.
